Rev. Cynthia Horn Burkert

Pastor Cindy has been pastor of our church since July, 2007.  Her passion is to bring the Good News of God's love to all God's children in whatever way is needed:  preaching, teaching, art, mentoring, community projects, and many types of worship and music, from classical to gospel and jazz.  She especially loves reaching out to those who have no church connection, and many people with no church home call her their pastor.   Her heart breaks for young adults and families who are longing for connection with other people and with God, in the midst of very busy lives.  (She’s been there!)

Pastor Cindy has served churches in Baltimore, Kent County, and Talbot County, Maryland, and in Newark, Delaware.

From 1996 through 1998, she was the Director of Severna Park Assistance Network in Anne Arundel County, a network of churches providing a food pantry, financial assistance for clients with emergency energy, housing, and prescription needs, budget counseling, and referrals. 

 

Prior to entering the ministry, Pastor Cindy worked for the Department of the Interior in Washington, DC, where she was a manager of information technology and served on the
Year 2000 rollover team.

Pastor Cindy is an honors graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. with an emphasis in Biblical Interpretation, and she received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Texas (Austin) in 1974.  She is married to Jack and they have four grown children and four grandchildren.  She likes to garden, paint (walls or pictures), sew and sing.
